Postcard Challenge 2

Here you can find what I posted last week!

And the story continues... 

   The weather was terrible when Broes came home from his latest business trip, the rain fell in a steady rhythm on his rooftop and made it hard to see anything through his windshield, despite the hard work of his wipers.  He stopped at the start of his driveway to grab the mail and tossed it on the front seat next to him. That’s when his eyes fell on a colorful postcard and he sat there reading the note at his dashboard light, not knowing what he should make of this girl…

Three days later the sky was still grey. He just packed his travel bag again to leave for an emergency repair on a farm in Spain. He grabs his keys from the counter and spots Emily’s card. He looks outside at the grey sky and sees three rays of sunshine peeping through the dark clouds enlightening the fields behind his property. After a deep sigh he places the card in his bag. Maybe he should just tell her what he thinks of her so called advice… 

 The card reads:

Ouch Emily! How could I wave all troubles away when the first thing I ran into at the airport was a petition against Bull Fighting?

Cows are my world, my life, ever since I invented a new milking device which I'm now selling all over the globe.

Must admit you are bringing color to my days since I think bout you a lot...

And I try to smile more at the people I meet!

Een trui...

Niet vergeten! Vanavond van 20-22u is er weer brei-café in de Keizerskroon in Hoorn!!!

Voor dit jaar heb ik boven aan mijn Wil-ik-heel-graag-doen-dit-jaar lijstje

een trui/vest breien voor mezelf gezet.

Ik heb al een aantal hele leuke patronen verzameld

en na een half uurtje Ravelry heb je er zo nog een heleboel bij...

Uiteindelijk heb ik gekozen voor de Pioneer!

This year on top of my Really-want-to-make-this-year list

I put to knit a sweater/cardigan for myself.

I already have quite some patterns

and after a half hour on Ravelry I have even more... 

In the end I picked the Pioneer! 

 

O ja, nog een héél eind te gaan... 

Ik heb ook geen idee of het met de maat goed gaat komen

of dat ik misschien toch nog een keer opnieuw moet beginnen?

Gelukkig werkt dit patroon van boven naar beneden 

dus ben je er al gauw achter of het past.

Ik heb al een aantal keer eerder een voor- en achterpand gebreid

om er na het aan elkaar zetten achter te komen dat het veel te groot geworden is...

Oy yes, lots of knitting to go...

I have no idea if this size works out for me

or if I need to start over again in another size?

Luckily this pattern is top-down

and I can try it on pretty quick to test the fit.

I have knit fronts and backs before

to find out it was way to big after sewing it...

Achter in mijn kast vond ik nog 11 bollen 

Drops Alpaca Aubergine 4400.

De bollen zijn echt knuffel-zacht.

Wat zou het heerlijk zijn om daar een trui van aan te hebben!!! :)

In the back of my closet I found 11 balls of

Drops Alpaca Dark Purple 4400.

The balls feel wonderfully soft.

It would be so nice to wear a sweater of it!!! :)

Postcard Challenge 1

Opeens lijkt het wel of iedereen mee doet met de uitdaging van Darcy

en ik dacht eerst dat zo'n wekelijkse uitdaging toch niets voor mij was

maar mijn onderbewuste dacht er anders over en ik werd 's nachts wakker 

van mijn twee karakters, wie ze waren en hoe ze elkaar ontmoet hadden! :)

Omdat dit een Engelse challenge is heb ik hem in het Engels uitgewerkt,

het is geen doen om alles te vertalen nu.

Maar in het kort komt het er op neer dat ik elke week een ansichtkaart maak en verstuur vanuit een ander land. Dat land wordt op maandags bekend gemaakt op Darcy's blog.

Ik kijk er naar uit!

Suddenly it seems everyone took Darcy's challenge

and I really thought a weekly challenge was not my thing

but I woke up in the middle of the night

thinking of my two characters, who they were and where they met! :)

Here's my story so far:

    They meet on a rainy night at the cinema in Amsterdam. Emily is weaving in pink dreads since there’s  not one soul on the street. She knows she’s supposed to be sitting there smiling like the cinema has the busiest night of the century but in fact she sold no ticket and didn’t even turn on the popcorn machine…

She’s startled when she sees a big head of dark curls popping up at the window and when she looks up she’s looking into the brightest blue eyes she has ever seen before. The man is talking to her but she doesn’t hear a word of what he says. Once she shakes her head she understands he wants to know if there’s anything worth seeing  tonight.

The only thing that pops up in her mind is her room at the inn but that’s probably not what he meant . She points at the board at her left side with the schedule and lets him know her favorite of the night. After only a few seconds he buys a ticket and thanks her for her help and is off to watch… Rio.

Oh my gosh, she thinks. What did I do? How can I send the cutest guy on earth to Rio?

Right then and there she decides she will be in the private room when the film ends!

When she comes back there’s a card in her booth reading:

Thank you for your advice. I haven’t laughed so much in years. The film is colorful and fun just like you. Write me when you hear of another great one!

Oh, how she would like to write to him, but she has only  two more nights to work here and then there’s enough money to travel to Austria… 

Emily is a 24yo self-declared Freestyle artist who takes any job for just as long as needed to travel some more. She’s outgoing, colorful and homeless by choice. Her one word to live by is Freedom, in every sense of the word. Who needs roots, right?

Her postcard is inspired by Austrian artist Hundertwasser.

The back reads:

Oh well, I couldn't resist leaving you a note too. You left your card in my booth asking for advice but as you can see I'm travelling again and no longer work at the cinema.

As for advice, I'd say: Loosen up!

Life is fun! Laugh more! It's pretty sad to need a film like Rio to laugh again...

You shouldn't take life so serious!

Ik heb me laten uitdagen door het fenomeen Zetti

Geen idee of mijn uitwerking volgens 'de regels' is

of dat ik ergens iets over het hoofd gezien heb?

Maar jee, wat is dit in mijn straatje! :)

I was challenged by the Art of Zetti

No idea if my elaboration went by 'the rules'

or if I missed something important?

But this is so my way! :)

Heerlijk uit mijn bak met restjes papier gewerkt

en haar pruik is van het papiertje van mijn chocolaatje bij de thee.

Oh, ik ga zo enorm in mijn voorraad opruimen

ik begin gewoon nogal klein... :)

Ik heb foto's genomen tijdens het naaien van mijn laatste mutsje.

Ik hoop dat dit een hoop duidelijk maakt!

Ik ben begonnen met een klein hoekje Vliesofix waarop ik de bloem applicatie tekende

I started with a small square of Wonder Under on which I drew the flower applique

Leg de lagen netjes op elkaar

(voor de foto heb ik ze even naast elkaar gelegd om de volgorde te laten zien)

Ik gebruik een stukje bakpapier om mijn strijkplank schoon te houden

dan de papieren onderlaag

de Vliesofix

en je applicatie stofje

Make a pretty stack of your layers

I use backing paper on the bottom to keep my board clean

than the bottom paper

Strijken en het onderste papiertje verwijderen

Iron together

and peel of the back paper

Knip het patroon 4x uit een rekbare stof
niet vergeten om een naad aan te knippen!

Cut the pattern 4 times from a stretchy fabric
don't forget to add a seam allowance while cutting!

Strijk je bloemetje op een van de patroondelen

Iron the flower to one of the pattern pieces

Alle onderdelen klaar om mee te nemen naar de naaimachine

All parts ready to take to the sewing machine

Mijn Brother machine heeft dit geweldige voetje

waarmee je je stofje alle kanten op kunt bewegen.

Ideaal voor Freestyle applicatie!

My Brother machine has this piece which makes

it possible to push you fabric to all sides.

Ideal for Freestyle applique!

Neem twee mutsdelen en speld ze met de goede kanten op elkaar

naai ze aan elkaar met een zigzag of stretchsteek

Take two hat parts and pin them right sides together

sew the seam with a zigzag or stretch stitch

Als je dit 4x herhaald ziet het er al uit als een heus mutsje

When you repeat this four times it already looks like a little hat

Nu je bies doormidden vouwen met de goede kanten op elkaar

en op de korte kant aan elkaar naaien

Now fold your strip double with the right sides together

and sew the short side

Draai je bies met de goede kant naar buiten

en speld hem aan je mutsje

(begin met de naad van de bies midden achter op je muts)

vast naaien en omdraaien

Turn your strip right side out

and pin it to the hat

(start with the seam of the strip on the middle back side of your hat)

sew together and turn right side out

Ik naai de omslag midden achter naast de naad even door

zo blijft hij mooi omgevouwen zitten

I like to topstitch the rim next to the seam on the back

it helps to keep the rim folded up

Plaats hem op het hoofdje van je Babyborn

en GENIET! :)

Lekker leesvoer

Vorig jaar nam ik me voor om meer te gaan lezen

daar was ik een aantal jaar niet echt aan toe gekomen

of moet ik zeggen dat ik er geen tijd voor vrij wilde maken?

40 boeken las ik uit!

Wat een goed gevoel!

Ik ben het jaar geëindigd met Shanna Swendson. Lekker!

Last year I intented to read more

I read 40 books!

What an amazing feeling!

I ended last year with Shanna Swendson. Feels good! 

Dit zijn de Nederlandse boeken.

Helaas zijn er nog maar twee in het Nederlands vertaald...

Ik had na twee delen nog niet genoeg van Katie en Owen en dus heb ik de Engelstalige besteld bij de Book Depository en ze achter elkaar uitgelezen! 

Eigenlijk voelt het verhaal nog altijd niet helemaal af. Katie en Owen zijn bij elkaar maar je voelt dat er zomaar weer iets zou kunnen gebeuren om ze uit elkaar te drijven...

De schrijfster wil graag verder schrijven maar de uitgever zegt dat er te weinig boeken zijn verkocht dus als jullie nu massaal deze boeken bestellen en gaan lezen dan kom te er voor mij misschien toch nog een echt einde aan het verhaal van Katie en Owen! :)

There are only two translated to Dutch and I read them a couple years ago and I really wanted to know how it ended for Katie and Owen so I ordered the English books at the Book Depository

After reading all four parts I feel the story of Owen and Katie is still  not finished.

The writer would love to work on part 5 but the publisher says she hasn't been selling enough of the previous books.

So, if you all can advertise a bit and buy the books I might be able to know how it really ends between them... :)
