New shirt

Het is zomervakantie...

We beginnen 's morgens om half 9 met zwemles voor Teus en Cato

en daarna?

Is er een hele lange dag met niets...

Summer holidays are here...

We start our days with swimming lessons for Teus en Cato at 8.30

and then?

A whole long day of nothing...

En dus pakte ik mijn kans en naaide een heerlijk ruim shirt voor mezelf!

And so I took a couple hours to sew a shirt for me!

Ik zag dit model hangen op de markt.

One size fits all zei de meneer die er bij hoorde terwijl hij mij bedenkelijk aankeek...

Tja, 1.82m en bijna 90kg valt daar toch echt buiten! ;)

I saw a similar shirt hanging when I went to the market.

One size fits all said the guy selling them looking questionable at me...

Right, 1.82m and almost 90kg doesn't fit! ;)

Er is nog wel ruimte voor verbetering

maar voor een proto-type ben ik meer dan tevreden!

Als je mij zoekt, ben ik in de tuin...

Genieten van de zon en mijn nieuwe shirt! :)

Table runners...

Op school vragen ze altijd aan het begin van het jaar voor welke klusjes ze je mogen vragen,

nu hou ik helemaal niet van schoonmaken enzo dus ik kies altijd voor naaiwerk

Krijg ik 1x per jaar een stapel luizencapes om na te kijken ofzo...

Toch hadden ze me nu goed te pakken! :)

At the start of a new schoolyear we're always asked for what kind of chores they can count on us,

I truely dislike cleaning so I always pick sewing

Mostly I get a stack of lice-capes once a year to repair...

Now they got me big time! :)

Ik ben hier twee weken bijna full time mee bezig geweest!

Ik kreeg twee enorme lappen stof met de vraag of ik ze om kon toveren in 8 tafel lopers.

Graag allemaal net even anders, maak er maar iets leuks en gezelligs van...

Nu klinkt dat wel redelijk in mijn straatje natuurlijk!

Hier liggen ze allemaal op onze biljarttafel en hield ik de camera ongeveer tegen het plafond...

Best mooi, hè?

I've been working on this for almost two weeks non-stop!

I received two big pieces of fabric with the question if I could sew up 8 table runners.

It would be great if they could all be a tad different, make something nice and warm...

Well, that sounds like my piece of cake!

Here they are all together on our billiard table and I held the camera up to ceiling...

Kind of nice, isn't it?

 En mooi op een stapeltje,

ik ga ze met een blij gevoel morgen op school afgeven!

And nicely stacked,

it's a great feeling to leave them at school tomorrow!

Ik loop nog steeds trouw elke dag mijn rondje.

Eergisteren schrok ik wel enorm van deze zwaan...

Hij kwam aan vliegen en dacht in de sloot te landen maar klapte met een rot-smak op het ijs!

Ik ben een poosje blijven kijken maar hij wist zichzelf op de kant te krijgen en even later vloog hij weer verder gelukkig...

I've been walking every day, for 5 days straight now.

 The day before yesterday a swan wanted to land in the water but smacked on the ice instead!

I've been watching him for a while but he clambered back on the field and I was glad to see him fly away a bit later...

Gister werd ik getrakteerd op een fantastisch mooie zonsopgang boven onze kerktoren!

Vandaag geen foto gemaakt, het was grijs en grauw

maar zo zonder wind wel een stuk prettiger om te lopen!

En nog iemand goed aan het bewegen gekregen deze week?

Yesterday I was treated on a beautiful sun-rise above our Church tower!

Today I didn't take a photo, it was grey and gloomy

but without the wind a lot nicer to walk!

Anybody else been getting some exercise this week?

Patroon: Go To-Top van Lil Blue Boo 

Stof uit voorraad, waarschijnlijk minstens 2 jaar oud...

Pattern: Go To-Top by Lil Blue Boo

Fabric from stash, at least 2 years old...

Het patroon is echt heel makkelijk te naaien

alleen was het niet groot genoeg voor mijn enorme uit de Westfriese klei getrokken lijf dus heb ik wat centimeters toegevoegd hier en daar...

Op zich een succes, het shirt zit heerlijk, onderaan sluit hij netjes aan en boven heerlijk wijd,

helemaal wat ik in gedachten had!

Alleen die halslijn... Die mag wel wat smaller!

The pattern is really easy to sew up

it just wasn't big enough for my shape so I added a couple centimers here and there...

For a start a succes, the shirt feels wonderful, tight on the bottom and lovely wide at the top,

really what I had in mind!

Just the neckline... That could have been smaller!

 Ach, voor een eerste shirt met een nieuw patroon ben ik heel tevreden

en ik zie mezelf al snel op zoek gaan naar nog een lap tricot!

Toch jammer dat de temperatuur nu rond het nulpunt ligt en ik echt wel wat dikkers aan moet, wil ik een beetje op temperatuur blijven... :)

Oh well, for a first shirt with a new pattern I'm pretty much satisfied

and I can see myself looking out for another piece of stretch fabric soon!

Too bad temperatures are close to freezing and I really need to wear warmer clothes now if I want to stay warm and comfy... :)

 

Ja, het mooiste stukje...

Hihi, ik heb mijn label in de halslijn achter genaaid.

Echt, toen ik dat deed voelde ik me net een klein kind op de kade, uitkijkend naar Sinterklaas.

Ja, we gaan zo weer naar Monnickendam, hij is onderweg!!!

And the best part...

I sewed my label on the back of the neckline.

Really, I felt like a child, looking out for Sinterklaas (a little like Santa Claus) to arrive. 

Yes, we're about to leave to Monnickendam, he's almost here again!!!

En het is hoog tijd dat ik weer eens mee doe.

Schuif je ook gezellig aan vrijdagavond, in pyjama, gaan we samen zorgen dat er iets leuks onder de naaimachine vandaan komt!

Ik ga op zoek of ik nog tricot stof ergens heb slingeren. Ik wil heel graag de Go To-Top naaien van Lil Blue Boo...

Maar het kan ook nog iets heel anders worden, het is nog lang geen vrijdag tenslotte... :)

Ik naaide zomaar wat lijnen met satijnkoord en decoratieve steken van de naaimachine om een heuvel te maken...

Ik kocht mijn eerste naaimachine bijna 20 jaar geleden maar heb echt veel van haar geleerd!

I sewed a couple lines with Rattail and decorative stitches on the sewing machine to create a hill...

De boeken van Aimee Ray kan ik ook alleen maar aanbevelen bij een project als dit!

De boom maakte ik door een wollen draad op te naaien.

En toen zette ik de naaimachine weg en ging ik met de hand verder...

I made the tree while sewing on a woolen thread.

And then I unplugged my sewing machine and went on with hand stitching...

 

Blaadjes aan de boom, vogeltjes in een nest, een eekhoorntje, vogeltjes...

Je fantasie kan niet groot genoeg zijn!!!

Leaves on the tree, birds in a nest, a little squirrel, a couple birds...

How big is your imagination?!

 

Toen ik helemaal tevreden was maakte ik er een sandwich van 

(een lap stof voor de achterkant, een fleece als middenlaag en de geborduurde lap bovenop)

en naaide almaar vanuit het midden naar de rand, door de drie lagen.

When I was completely satisfied I made a sandwich of it

(a piece of fabric for the back, a fleece in the middle and my emrboidered piece on top)

and sewed from the middle to the outside through all three layers.

Bijna klaar! Hij is netjes op maat gesneden...

Almost done! Just cut into a nice square...

 

En afgemaakt met een nette rand van satijnkoord.

Iets wat prachtig uitgelegd word in Stupendous Stitching!!!

And finished up with a neat rattail-binding.

Ik kreeg deze geweldige kussenslopen van Janet.

De stof met sneeuwpopjes is zó leuk!

Helaas vonden mijn jongens dat ook en zij hebben ze per direct meegenomen naar hun bedstedes op zolder... 

Tja, en toen had ik nog niks... :)

I received these awesome pillowcases from Janet.

The fabric with snowmen is soooo cool!

Too bad my boys felt the same and they took them straight up into their new build-in beds in the attic...

 And that left me with nothing... :)

Stoffenbeurs in Hoorn

Gister ging ik naar de Stoffenbeurs.

Ik ging niet zo veel kopen,

maar had natuurlijk wel een wensenlijstje...

De zon scheen,

er waren allemaal gezellige mensen

en ontzettend leuke stoffen

waarvan ik het eerst nog niet wist

maar die ik toch echt heel erg nodig had! *grijns*

Yesterday I went to the fabric market in Hoorn.

I didn't plan to buy much,

but had a little wish-list of course...

The sun was shining,

it was full of happy people

and the cutest fabrics

I didn't know I needed 

but really had to buy! *grin*

De eerste keer toen ik langs 'Kantjes en Bandjes' liep,

aaide ik wat en keek

maar liep netjes door.

En toen gingen we nog een rondje

en stond ik met wat in mijn handen

en vroeg die vriendelijke meneer of ik soms een mandje wilde om ze in te stoppen?

Tuurlijk toch...

En toen zaten er zomaar ineens 19 in die langs de kassa gingen!

Maar ja, zou jij er eentje terug kunnen leggen???

and the nice guy asked if I needed a little basket to put them in?

Sure, why not...

And suddenly there were 19 in there and off to the register!

En uiteindelijk geef ik gewoon Mme ZsaZsa de schuld!

Want als zij niet dat ontzettend leuke boekje geschreven had

dat nog leuker voor het oog is

dan de meeste bladen die ik op salontafels ter inspiratie zie liggen

dan had ik nu niet die ongelooflijke drang 

om voor alle meisjes in dit huis 

rokjes te gaan naaien!

In the end I just blame Mme Zsazsa!

If she hadn't made the cutest sewing book

which is a feast to the eye

and better than most inspirational magazines I've seen on the shelves lately

then I wouldn't have this huge urge

to sew skirts

for all the girls in this house!

En nog een jurk...

Na zo'n proefjurkje had ik de smaak te pakken

dus naaide ik er nog eentje

een beetje langer...

I really had fun making Cato her dress

so I made another one

a bit longer...

Het is echt een appeltje-eitje jurk!

Heel goed als je even een ego-boost nodig hebt...

Het kan niet fout!

It truely is an easy-peasy dress!

If you need an ego-trip you should try to sew this one...

You can't go wrong!

en ach, wat neemt het nu helemaal zo'n klein jurkje?

Hoog op!

Nieuwe jurk

Gister was niet alleen Teus thuis met zijn waterpokken maar had ook Cato dikke koorts.

Ze heeft het grootste gedeelte van de dag op de bank liggen slapen...

Anouk kwam 's morgens gezellig samen naaien en daar begon ik met het snijden van Marilyns Slim Fit Peasant Dress.

Yesterday not only Teus was at home with his chicken pox but Cato was running a high fever.

She spend the majority of the day sleeping on the sofa...

Anouk came by so we could sew together and there I started cutting Marilyns Slim Fit Peasant Dress.

Zo'n dag met de jongste twee thuis kan ik ten volle benutten.

Het kost me zo'n 2½ uur per dag om heen en weer te fietsen naar school.

Nou, die tijd kost het ook ongeveer om dit leuke jurkje in elkaar te zetten!

On such a day with the little ones at home I can do a lot.

Normally I spend about 2½ hours per day biking up and down to school.

Well, that's about the time you need to sew up this cute dress!

Ik kon haar niet helemaal opmeten omdat ze ziek op de bank lag maar kwam uit op maat 3T en lengte 5T.

Qua breedte is ie goed, maar hij had nog wel 2 inch langer gemogen...

I couldn't messure her laying sick on the sofa but ended up on a size 3T and length 5T.

The width is perfect but the lenghth could use an inch or 2 more... 

 

 Geeft niks, dit is tenslotte maar het proto-type! :)

(En alle stofjes van de Handwerkbeurs zijn nu weer gebruikt en dus kan ik weer verder met de UIU!)

No problem, this is just the proto-type! :)

(All the fabrics I bought at the Handwerkbeurs are used now so I'm still in the UIU!)

Ik kreeg nog steeds een dikke Hoera! voor deze jurk vanmorgen.

Laat de zomer maar komen, wij zijn er klaar voor!!!

Hertta rok

Zo, de helft van de lapjes die ik vorige week kocht zijn verwerkt! :)

Zo is het weer UIU-verantwoord en ik heb een hele blijde Catootje!

So, half of the fabrics I bought last week are worked with! :)

Now it's UIU-proof again and I have a very happy Catootje!

 Ik heb alle Ottobre's die ik heb op tafel gezet, 

rokjes uitgezocht in haar maat en die ik het leukst vond

en daar mocht zij er eentje uit kiezen...

I put all my Ottobre's on the table,

picked my favorite skirts

and let her pick one...

En zo kwamen we uit bij Ottobre 1/2009

Ik vraag me nog af of mt98 misschien nog net een maatje te groot is...

Nou ja, als haar benen gaan groeien is hij zo weer te kort natuurlijk!

I'm wondering if size 98 is just a tad too long for her...

Oh well, if her legs start growing it will be too short soon of course!

En toen kwam Zara even aanwijzingen geven hoe ze moest gaan staan voor een foto-shoot...

Ah ja, iets te vaak Holland's Next Topmodel gekeken misschien??? :)

And then Zara came by to give directions how she should stand for a photo-shoot...

Ah yes, Maybe we've watched Holland's Next Topmodel too many times ??? :)
